This zero-waste soap is made with leftover, handmade soap shreds and scented with Tea Tree and Sweet Orange Essential Oils. Mild and deodorizing, it's the perfect clean up for when you're cooking fragrant seafood or garlic in the kitchen, or as a slightly exfoliating bar in the shower.

When our ancestors made soap, they used animal fats they rendered themselves. This created a brownish colored soap. It was a necessary chore, and it produced a rough, slightly caustic bar. However, the soap was essential and used for everything from washing clothes to cleaning little faces. Very little, if anything ever went to waste.

I don't like waste, either, and this soap enables me to recycle all my leftover soap scraps. My own zero waste version of Grandma's Brown Soap!

Here's how it works: All of my olive oil soaps are planed. This means I run the edges of each bar over a wire that removes sharp edges. This makes it feel nicer in your hands while you're using it. What to do with all those soap shreds? Up-cycle them into new soap!

These soap shreds are then added to fresh oils. This batter is poured into a mold and left over night in a warm oven. This 'warm-processing' method produces very mild, lather rich soap.

These soaps have a bit of 'scrub' to them, and may smell slightly different from batch to batch, depending on what soap shreds I have. But, just like grandma's soap, it'll get the job done. The big difference is, your skin's gonna love this extremely mild version!

Grandma's Zero-Waste Brown Soap is hand-stamped, but left untrimmed, as to avoid creating more soap shreds.
Added fresh: Olive Oil, Distilled Water, Sodium Hydroxide, *Coconut Oil, *Sunflower Oil, Kokum Butter, Rhassoul Clay, Tea Tree Oil, Oatmeal, Sweet Orange Essential Oil, Patchouli Essential Oil

Soap shreds may contain: Cocoa Butter, *Shea Butter, *Pumpkin Puree, *Coconut Milk, *Oat Milk, Brewed Coffee, *Nettle Leaf, Sea Clay, Kaolin Clay, Moroccan Clay, Ground Loofah, Crushed Walnut Hull, Calendula Petals, Crushed Vanilla Bean, Crushed Clove, *Pear Puree, Cosmetic Mica, Fragrance Oil
This is a hand cut soap, approx. 4.5 oz. Please allow for slight variations in weight. Always keep your soap out of of standing water. We carry the hand-crafted wood soap dishes you see in the photos, here.

Great Kitchen Hand Soap

Valerie has found the best use for the soap odds and ends from making all her delightful scented soap bars - a wonderfully scented, slightly exfoliating brown bar of soap for hand washing in the kitchen. Bonus is you have no waste either..no bottle to throw out. It's all I use in the kitchen, now. Another bonus - no dry hands from repeatedly washing- because olive oil is one of the ingredients.
